The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing and implementing a programme of research on integrating health into water security methodologies and tools, to highlight the aggregated impact to physical, mental and social well-being. Interdisciplinary research is critical to address these challenges, and experience in one or more of a wide range of disciplines would be appropriate for the post holder, such as geography, engineering, and health sciences.
This research will be focused on challenges in Ethiopia, and other countries, such as India, Colombia, and Malaysia. As such, the role will involve significant overseas travel. You will be engaging with stakeholders and practitioner partners in the UK and internationally, potentially including co-designing research, communicating and validating results, managing relationships and providing training. You will write research articles for recognised peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and reviews.
You must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in areas related to the understanding of water security and health relationships, and advancing delivery of novel management approaches, with post-qualification research experience.
You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge to develop research projects and methodologies related to water quality management and climate resilience. You will have the ability to independently plan and manage a research project, including a budget and raise funds by grant applications. A strong publication record, appropriate for career stage, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field is essential.
This is a full-time post offered for 3 years in the first instance.
