We are seeking an excellent researcher to join Dr Charles’ water quality team. Dr Charles leads research on interdisciplinary approaches to improve the safety and reliability of drinking water services in low- and middle-income countries.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing and implementing a programme of research aligned to the research themes of the group: climate resilience, water security and health. Interdisciplinary research is critical to address these challenges, and experience in one or more of a wide range of disciplines would be appropriate for the postholder, such as geography, engineering, political economy, and health sciences.
This research will be focused on challenges in one or more of the countries the team are active in, including Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Kenya. As such, the role will involve significant overseas travel. You will be engaging with stakeholders and practitioner partners in the UK and internationally, potentially including co-designing research, communicating and validating results, managing relationships and providing training. You will publish research articles for leading peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and working papers.
You will hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in areas related to climate resilience or water security. You will have the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities and budgets. Experience in field research in low-income countries and stakeholder engagement processes is essential. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work within a team and to build relationships with practitioners. A strong publication record, appropriate for career stage, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field is a must.
